Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are set to reunite on screen for a grand song sequence in their upcoming film King. The song, which is expected to feature the film's entire cast, will be choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, with preparations underway for the shoot in Mumbai.
According to Variety, the shoot is scheduled to begin on October 26 and is expected to continue for a week. While earlier reports suggested that the makers were considering travelling to South Africa to film the sequence, the plan has now shifted to Mumbai. The team is reportedly making extensive preparations to mount the song on a large scale.
The sequence is expected to bring together the film's ensemble cast, adding to the anticipation surrounding the action entertainer, which is slated for a Christmas release this year. The upcoming song marks Vaibhavi Merchant's eighth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan. The choreographer last worked with the superstar on Jawan, which featured elaborate dance sequences alongside its action-heavy narrative.
While details about the song's music, setting and choreography remain under wraps, the involvement of the entire cast suggests that the sequence could be one of the film's key musical highlights. Deepika is also returning to work just weeks after giving birth to her second daughter, Devi.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King features Khan alongside Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Abhay Verma and Jaideep Ahlawat in pivotal roles. The film has generated considerable interest, particularly as it brings together established stars and younger talent.
King marks the sixth film featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone together. Their association began with Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, which also marked Padukone's Hindi film debut. The film's success established the duo as a popular on-screen pairing.
They reunited in Rohit Shetty's action-comedy Chennai Express, followed by the ensemble comedy Happy New Year. The actors later shared screen space in Siddharth Anand's action thrillers Pathaan and Jawan, both released in 2023.
Their reunion in King adds another chapter to their long-running on-screen association. With the Mumbai song shoot scheduled to begin on October 26, the makers are gearing up for a major production sequence ahead of the film's planned Christmas release. King is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24, 2026.
