Arjun Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer, '2 States', has beaten Varun Dhawan's 'Main Tera Hero' opening weekend collections at the box office. The film has grossed Rs 35 crore as opposed to 'Main Tera Hero' (MTH), which had raked in Rs 21 crore in its first weekend. Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani says, "The film has done much better than 'MTH' and is going steady at the box office even on weekdays. For a film starring young names, the numbers are very encouraging."

Thadani adds that MTH's collection was also affected by World Cup cricket matches. "In comparison, the collection of '2 States' hasn't suffered so far as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently being played in UAE. Once the matches shift to India, one will have to wait and see how theatrical releases get affected," he says.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "2 States had a good opening on Friday and it registered handsome figures. Saturday saw a small drop in collections, but on Sunday it bounced back. It is expected to enjoy a healthy run at the BO even on weekdays. The multiplex audience, for one, has lapped it up."

On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan's 'Bhootnath Returns' has collected R30 crore in the first ten days of its release. Thadani says, "It is a decent number; the film has done fairly well."
