Lyricist Sameer Anjaan has carved a name for himself with his words and music in a career spanning decades. Anjaan recently shared an anecdote where he recalled veteran filmmaker David Dhawan's reaction to the title song of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji's film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
In the latest episode of trade analyst Komal Nahta's podcast Game Changers: The Music Series, Sameer Anjaan, shared one of the most humorous moments from the conversation with director David Dhawan. He recalled Dhawan's candid reaction when the iconic title track of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai first came out.
Sameer shared with a laugh. "The first song of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which was released, was Tum Paas Aaye, Yun Muskuraaye. David Dhawan heard the song. He called and told me, âBada ganda gaana likha hai tune, yaar. Meri picture mein aisa gaana likhna mat' (laughs)! I asked him, âTeri picture ka gaana hai? Tu kyun pareshan ho raha hai? Jaane de na'. He said, âMeri film ke gaane bhi release hue hain. Uss film ke music ko khatam nahin kar diya toh tu mujhe bata! '
Notably, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released on October 16, 1998. The film, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji and helmed by Karan Johar, famously clashed at the box office with David Dhawan's directorial, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which released on the same day.
Sameer Anjaan boasts of a career spanning over four decades and thousands of iconic tracks to his credit. Even today, Sameer Anjaan remains one of Bollywood's most prolific lyricists, having written some of the biggest chartbusters of the 1990s and 2000s. Through his lyrics, he has captured emotion and commercial appeal, making him a favourite across generations of filmmakers.
He has also been recognised by Guinness World Records as the most prolific Bollywood lyricist in 2015, having composed over 3,500 songs. Sameer Anjaan has also bagged several awards for his work in the industry over the decades. Interestingly, Sameer's father, Lalji "Anjaan" Pandey, was also a well-known Hindi lyricist.
