A still from Dhurandhar
Dhurandhar has debuted with a bang, earning over Rs 27 crore on its opening day. As the audience continues to show their enthusiasm for the Ranveer Singh starrer, exhibitors have chosen to add more shows, with certain theatres in Mumbai even offering midnight screenings, allowing the film to run around the clock.
Multiple shows were added on the first day of Dhurandhar's release, ranging from after midnight to early morning. PVR Sangam is airing a 1:50 a.m. show, and Eros has added a 6 a.m. show. Similarly, PVR Citi Mall and MovieMax Sion have introduced early-morning shows. A theatre in Mumbai's Bhayandar has scheduled up to eight shows after midnight and early in the morning.
Dhurandhar follows Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, played by R. Madhavan, as he conducts a high-risk mission to dismantle a terror network in Pakistan. Ranveer Singh stars as a 20-year-old Punjabi youngster recruited from prison and taught to penetrate Karachi's criminal underworld. The film was shot in Thailand, Mumbai, Punjab, and Ladakh between July 2024 and October 2025, and has a duration of 214 minutes, making it one of India's longest theatrical releases.
The parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma, an Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal recipient, petitioned the Delhi High Court for an emergency stop on the film's release. In their plea, they claimed that Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar is based on the decorated Special Forces officer's life, undercover missions, and sacrifice, all without the authorisation of his family or the Indian Army. They sought to protect their son's legacy. However, the film's director later explained that the spy thriller is based on a fictional character rather than the Major's life.
Aditya Dhar issued a clarification statement, which read, "Our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honours his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us."
