Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has reacted strongly after his upcoming film Satluj reportedly faced a ban in India. The actor urged fans to keep the film alive by sharing downloaded copies and expressed his unwavering commitment to Punjab and its stories, saying he would continue celebrating his roots regardless of restrictions.
Taking to social media, Diljit shared an emotional note after reports emerged that Satluj would not be released in India. The actor encouraged his supporters to watch the film wherever possible and ensure that its message reached audiences.
In his post, Diljit wrote, "If Satluj is banned in India, download it, save it, circulate it. Let the story travel. No ban can stop a story that belongs to the people."
He further added, "Punjab till the day I die. No matter where I go in the world, my identity will always remain the same." His remarks quickly went viral, with fans praising him for standing by his beliefs and expressing solidarity with his home state.
Satluj has been at the centre of controversy over its subject matter, with reports suggesting that authorities objected to certain themes portrayed in the film. While an official detailed explanation for the reported ban has not been made public, the development has sparked widespread debate on social media about artistic freedom and censorship.
Diljit, however, chose to focus on the importance of storytelling rather than the controversy itself. Stressing that cinema should not be restricted by geographical boundaries, he said, "Stories find their own path. If people want to watch something, they always will."
The actor also thanked his fans for their constant support, acknowledging that their encouragement has been one of the biggest strengths throughout his career.
"Thank you to everyone who has stood by me. Your love gives me the courage to keep creating and keep telling our stories," he wrote.
The singer's statement has drawn mixed reactions online. While many users applauded his passionate defence of Punjabi culture and artistic expression, others questioned his appeal to circulate downloaded copies of the film, arguing that it could encourage piracy.
Despite the controversy, Diljit remained resolute about his connection to Punjab. Reiterating his pride in his heritage, he concluded his message by saying, "Punjab till the day I die," a line that has since been widely shared across social media platforms.
Known for speaking candidly on social issues, Diljit has often used his platform to celebrate Punjabi identity and culture. His latest comments have once again placed him at the centre of a larger conversation about censorship, freedom of expression and the role of cinema in reflecting regional stories. Whether Satluj eventually finds an official release in India remains uncertain, but the controversy has already generated significant attention around the film and Diljit's unwavering stand.
