Ajay Devgn has a cheeky reply when asked how Drishyam would have turned out if his wife Kajol had been part of the franchise. The actor appeared on the opening episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show season 5 alongside the cast of Drishyam: The Conclusion, where a question about Kajol led to a quick one-liner from Ajay.
The conversation began when host Kapil Sharma brought director Abhishek Pathak into the discussion and asked him to imagine casting Kajol in the first Drishyam film. Kapil joked, "Abhishek sir, if you had cast Kajol ma'am in the first part, don't you think she would have made you spill everything right there?"
Ajay immediately joined in with his trademark deadpan humour, replying, "The first film wouldn't have been made." Ajay's response played on the central premise of the Drishyam franchise, which follows Vijay Salgaonkar, a family man who goes to extraordinary lengths to protect his loved ones and conceal the truth surrounding a crime.
In the films, Vijay's ability to carefully construct a story and make sure that his family sticks to it becomes crucial to the plot. Kapil's hypothetical question suggested that having Kajol in the first instalment could have made keeping such a secret rather difficult, giving Ajay the perfect opportunity for a husband-wife joke.
Kajol, who has been married to Ajay since 1999, is not a part of the Drishyam franchise. Ajay has headlined the series as Vijay, with the latest instalment, Drishyam: The Conclusion, bringing him back alongside Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Jaideep Ahlawat. Abhishek Pathak returns as director.

The comedy show also saw Sunil Grover mimic Ajay, while Jaideep joined Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda for their Sona and Mona act. Navjot Singh Sidhu praised Ajay's understated style, saying, "He doesn't speak much, but when he does, his words are powerful."
Kapil also joked about his own equation with Ajay, saying that despite knowing him for 15 years, their conversations had largely remained limited to, "I am fine. How are you?" The Great Indian Kapil Show season 5 premieres on Netflix on September 26 at 8 pm, with new episodes arriving every Saturday. Drishyam: The Conclusion releases on October 2, 2026.
