Jaideep Ahlawat breaks silence on being compared to Akshaye Khanna in the Drishyam franchise

The trailer for Drishyam The Conclusion was unveiled on Wednesday, September 9, and it shows the entry of a new character, played by Jaideep Ahlawat, in the franchise. During the trailer launch event, the actor opened up about his role and also addressed the comparisons with Akshaye Khanna, who was seen in the second instalment.

Jaideep Ahlawat clarified that he does not see his character as a replacement for the one played by Akshaye Khanna. For the unversed, Akshaye Khanna played the role of IPS Tarun Ahlawat in the second instalment.

Addressing the 'replacement' rumours, Jaideep said, "No, because when I heard the story, it did not feel like I was coming in place of Akshaye sir. A new character is being introduced. There is no point in taking that pressure. As far as comparison is concerned, I don't think you should think about that as an actor."

He further explained, "The journey is different, the introduction is new, and a new relationship is going to be created with Meera and the Salgaonkar family. So, it is going to be a very individualistic approach to this character. I don't think there was any pressure."

Jaideep also recalled his first reaction after director Abhishek Pathak had narrated the story to him. The actor said he did not feel like his character had been brought into the film because of another existing character. "When Abhishek told me this story, it did not feel like I had come in because of another character. He is completely on his own new journey," he said.

Akshaye Khanna Quits Drishyam 3

After being a part of the second instalment of the franchise, many expected Akshaye Khanna to return for the third and final instalment. However, some reports suggest that Akshaye Khanna reportedly demanded Rs 21 crore after the twin successes of Dhurandhar and Chhaava.

Additionally, the makers of Drishyam 3 reportedly wanted the actor to wear a wig for his role, which he was not in favour of. Thus, the disagreements over his remuneration and look led to his exit from Drishyam 3.
