Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan's Haiwaan has hit theatres amid mixed reviews from moviegoers. Helmed by Priyadarshan, the crime thriller marks the actors' reunion after 18 years. The film was released in cinemas on Friday, September 11, with its opening day numbers now coming in.
As per the latest figures shared by industry tracker Sacnilk, Haiwaan has earned Rs 2.90 crore net in India so far. Its India gross collection stands at Rs 2.41 crore. These are live figures, and the final Day 1 numbers are yet to be reported. The film is currently running across 7,224 shows with an overall occupancy of 11%.
Haiwaan is competing with Mirzapur: The Movie and Hanuman Ansh, both of which are currently attracting audiences in theatres. The film's performance over the weekend will be closely watched, with audience response after day one likely to determine its box-office trajectory.
Haiwaan failed to see strong advance booking ahead of its release. The film also had slow buzz before hitting theatres, which appears to have hampered its pre-sales. According to Sacnilk, Haiwaan sold 44,176 tickets across 7,368 shows through advance bookings. The film had earned Rs 1.03 crore from pre-ticket sales, excluding blocked seats, while the figure stood at Rs 2.76 crore when blocked seats were included. Meanwhile, Mirzapur: The Movie has been performing incredibly at the box office. The film's impressive run has created strong competition for Haiwaan, particularly on its opening day.
Haiwaan has also garnered attention because of its similarities to Priyadarshan's 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam. The crime thriller stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles, along with Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Boman Irani and Sharib Hashmi.
The story follows Shyam, who is a visually impaired caretaker trapped in a murder case. His peaceful life is turned upside down when he gets caught in a dangerous search involving a hidden daughter named Nandini, whom Parshuram is also looking for.
