Ace lyricist alleges big music labels have refused to work with him after his fight for share of royalty a year ago

Sometimes all that separates you from a cause is the courage of conviction. And Javed Akhtar, who has been following an uphill task of battling for a share in royalty of songs earned by music labels, has paid the price for his.

Waging this war on behalf of the rest of the music industry, the veteran lyricist has apparently been out of work since the past year for clamouring for his right. Blaming the clout of the music giants in the industry, Akhtar states, "The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) is controlled by a few powerful music labels and these labels have become greedy and don't want to give us the share of our money."

According to Akhtar, at a meeting of the organisation it was apparently unanimously decided to not work with the lyricist till the case of royalty was being fought. "As a result of this I hardly have any film for the last one year. I have been sitting jobless but it doesn't pull me down. It gives me a bigger reason to fight with more zeal," he adds.u00a0
