Arshad Warsi is set to return to the courtroom with Jolly LLB 4, but the next instalment of the popular franchise may take audiences back in time. According to a report by Variety India, the makers are developing a prequel, with Warsi expected to reprise his role as the lead.
The first film, Jolly LLB, released in 2013 and featured Warsi as a lawyer navigating a high-profile case. Its success led to a sequel, Jolly LLB 2, which arrived in 2017 with Akshay Kumar taking over as the protagonist. The two actors eventually came together for the third instalment, Jolly LLB 3, bringing their respective characters into the same courtroom.
However, if the latest report is accurate, the fourth film will return the spotlight to Warsi and explore events preceding the storylines of the earlier films. While Subhash Kapoor directed the first three films in the franchise, the fourth instalment will reportedly be helmed by Umesh Shukla. The filmmaker is known for directing films such as OMG - Oh My God! and 102 Not Out.
The project is in the final stages of pre-production. A source said, "The project is currently in the last leg of pre-production. And it's not taking the film forward. It's a prequel." The report further states that the shoot is expected to wrap up in January 2027, with the film slated to release next year. However, the makers have not officially confirmed the reported details.
With Warsi reportedly leading the prequel, the question remains whether other familiar faces from the franchise will return. Amrita Rao, who played Warsi's wife in the first film, also appeared in the third instalment, making her a possible name to watch for the next chapter.
Saurabh Shukla, who has been a key part of the franchise as the judge, is another familiar face audiences associate with the courtroom comedies. However, the cast of the fourth film has not yet been officially announced.
Meanwhile, Warsi has had a busy year, with projects including Welcome to the Jungle, Dhamaal 4, Jeevan Ya Bheema Con and Ghamasaan. He is also part of the upcoming film King, starring Shah Rukh Khan and an ensemble cast, which is scheduled to release on December 24, 2026.
