Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has criticised the ongoing CJP protest near Parliament, stating that demonstrations should not be used as a way to pressure the government into taking decisions. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament during the Monsoon Session on Monday, the BJP MP said important public matters should be discussed within the parliamentary system.
Kangana said Parliament sessions are designed to allow elected representatives to raise concerns, debate issues and question the government. She argued that disruptions and protests affecting proceedings are not the appropriate way to influence administrative decisions.
"Our Parliamentary sessions are meant specifically for us to discuss all issues in an extensive and detailed manner and to raise relevant questions," Kangana said.
Reacting to the protests, she added that citizens have the right to elect a government and that decisions regarding leadership should not be influenced through demonstrations. She suggested that those who strongly disagree with the government's functioning should participate in elections instead.
"Creating a ruckus, causing disruptions, and protesting in this manner is not right. The people have elected a government, and it is their right to decide how they will run that government," she said.
Kangana's remarks came as protests linked to the CJP intensified around Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session. Demonstrators attempting to march towards Parliament faced heavy security deployment across central Delhi.
The CJP alleged that police used force, including a lathi-charge, to stop protesters. However, Delhi Police denied the claim and stated that no such action had taken place. As the march continued towards Parliament, authorities later used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Police officials had earlier stated that permission for the march had not been granted and warned that any unauthorised procession towards the Parliament area would not be allowed due to security concerns.
The protest has been organised by the CJP over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demands for accountability. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk had joined the movement and begun an indefinite hunger strike on June 28.
Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke ended his hunger strike, while Wangchuk announced that he would continue his fast from Safdarjung Hospital after being shifted there due to health concerns.
Kangana, who entered politics after her successful film career, has often spoken on political and social issues. Her latest comments have added another layer to the ongoing debate surrounding protests, government accountability and the role of public demonstrations in a democracy.
