Swara Bhaskar has found herself in the middle of a social controversy after her recent remarks about Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat resurfaced. The actress later clarified that her statement was not against Rani Padmavati, but the criticism followed. On Wednesday, BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut shared a rap on her Instagram story. The rap was originally posted by another social media user, and Kangana did not add any explanation or comment of her own.
The rap was against Swara, bashing her, and the artist had captioned his post as "Chalo kuch na-samjho ko itihas Sikhate hai (sic)."
In 2019, after Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone-starrer Padmaavat was released, Swara penned an open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali about the film's climax. At that time, it became a major discussion in B-Town. But now, during an event, the Tanu Weds Manu actress shared the reason behind writing the letter and how she felt after watching the film's climax, but her remarks soon landed her in controversy.
Sharing her views about the 800 women committing jauhar in Padmaavat, Swara said, "God forbid, if I was a rape survivor, what was this film telling me? I would feel like a coward that I didn't kill myself to save my honour. Is that what you want to tell in a society like ours where I feel that anyways there's a rape epidemic? Is this what you want to tell our survivors that you didn't deserve to live?" She further said that there was one scene in which a pregnant woman was shown committing Jauhar, and that made her 'disgusting.'
On Tuesday night, Swara shared a clip clarifying that her views were not against Rani Padmavati. Her video's caption read as, "à ¤®à ¥Âà ¤°à ¤¾ à ¤Âà ¤ à ¤µà ¥Âà ¤¡à ¤¿à ¤¯à ¥ à ¤Âà ¥Âà ¤²à ¤¿à ¤ª à ¤µà ¤¾à ¤¯à ¤°à ¤² à ¤¹à ¥Â- à ¤Âà ¤¿à ¤¸à ¥ à ¤Âà ¤¼à ¤²à ¤¤ à ¤°à ¥Âà ¤ª à ¤¸à ¥ à ¤Âà ¥Âà ¤ à ¥ à ¤¢à ¤Âà ¤ à ¤¸à ¥ à ¤ à ¤¨à ¥Âà ¤µà ¤¾à ¤¦à ¤¿à ¤¤ à ¤Âà ¤¿à ¤¯à ¤¾ à ¤Âà ¤¾ à ¤°à ¤¹à ¤¾ à ¤¹à ¥Â! I did not say anything that Rani Padmavati or any Sati was a coward."
Padmaavat is based on Malik Muhammad Jayasi's ballad of the same name and revolves around the story of Chittor's Rani Padmaavat. Deepika Padukone essays Padmaavat, who performs jauhar with hundreds of Rajput women after Alauddin Khilji attacks the fort. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film also starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
