Karnataka High Court accepts Ranveer Singh's apology in Kantara mimicry row, actor to visit Chamundi Hill deity

Ranveer Singh has been facing legal troubles for a while now after his infamous Kantara's daiva mimicry during the 56th International Film Festival of India held in Goa. After a recent hearing in which the court directed the actor to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple, a fresh update has emerged that the Karnataka High Court has accepted the Bollywood actor's unconditional apology in the recent hearing.

Karnataka High Court accepts Ranveer Singh's apology

The controversial case was heard before Justice M. Nagaprasanna on April 25, in which the actor's lawyer informed that a fresh affidavit had been submitted without any conditions attached. The counsel also confirmed that Ranveer Singh had undertaken to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple soon. Additionally, the court has also orally implied that it is likely to dispose of the matter after checking the revised affidavit filed by the actor.

The court was hearing the actor's plea to quash the FIR registered against him after his mimicry of Rishab Shetty's character in Kantara: Chapter 1 during the 56th IFFI Festival of India in Goa in 2025. Singh had faced severe backlash over his act for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. He also referred to the Chamundeshwari temple deity as ‘female ghost', which further hurt sentiments.

Ranveer Singh's plea challenged an FIR registered based on the complaint of an advocate, under Sections 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 299 (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 302(Uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings of any person) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Ranveer Singh mimicks Daiva

In December 2025, during a session at IFFI, Ranveer imitated the popular Chaudi scene from Kantara by crossing his eyes, sticking his tongue out, and adding his own "primordial scream" as Rishab Shetty warned him and laughed. Ranveer Singh also referred to the character as a "female ghost,"

The Dhurandhar actor further joked, "Anybody here want to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy," pointing at Shetty.
