Kareena Kapoor Khan may have spent more than two decades proving her mettle on screen, but there is one decision from her younger years that she wishes she had handled differently. The Daayra actor recently spoke about leaving her education after Class 11 to pursue acting, admitting that not completing her studies is something she still regrets.
Speaking to Hanuman Dass, Kareena recalled how her decision to enter films came at a time when she was still studying. "Education is something I do regret not completing. I never finished my education, and that was something that kind of stayed with me," she said. While the gamble clearly paid off professionally, the actor said the unfinished chapter of her education has remained with her.
Kareena acknowledged that people may have opinions about her decision, "I know a lot of people can make fun of that or say whatever they want, but I wanted to prove myself as an actor." For her, entering the film industry was less about following an expected career path and more about listening to what she genuinely wanted.
That experience has also shaped how she thinks about her own children's future. Kareena said she wants her sons, Taimur and Jehangir, to follow their hearts and pursue what makes them happy. At the same time, she hopes they do not make the same compromise she did when it comes to education.
The actor also opened up about the learning curve of raising two boys. "Me and Karisma were two sisters, so having two boys is completely different. It's almost like an out-of-body experience because I never grew up with a brother or a boy sibling," she admitted that she continues to learn from the experience every day.
On the work front, Kareena is gearing up for Daayra, her first collaboration with filmmaker Meghna Gulzar. The investigative drama brings Kareena together with Prithviraj Sukumaran and marks Gulzar's return to Junglee Pictures after Talvar and Raazi.
Written by Gulzar along with Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani, the film is backed by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. Saurabh Goswami serves as cinematographer, while Charu Shree Roy is on editing duties.
After choosing films over classrooms all those years ago, Kareena has since built one of Bollywood's most recognisable careers. Now, as she raises the next generation, it appears the actor is keen to ensure that following one's passion and completing one's education do not have to be mutually exclusive. The Daayra trailer was just launched recently and the film will release in theatres on September 18.
