Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan-starrer Udta Teer hit theatres on Friday and registered a moderate opening at the box office. The spy comedy garnered mixed reviews from audiences and critics but has managed to show an upward trend at the box office during the first weekend.
On its opening day, Udta Teer earned Rs 4.10 crore. It performed well despite facing tough competition from last week's releases, with Yami Gautam's Nayyi Navelli and Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar continuing their theatrical runs. According to the latest update on entertainment-tracking portal Sacnilk, Udta Teer has earned Rs 7.25 crore, taking its total India gross collections to Rs 13.35 crore, while its total India net collections stand at Rs 11.35 crore. If the film managed to show the same growth on Sunday, it will deliver a solid opening weekend. It's now set to see how the film performs in the upcoming days as the audience reactions continue to emerge.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh talked about the film's box office performance and noted on X, "Udta Teer fares better than pre-release estimates... The slow start in the morning and noon shows suggested an opening in the â¹ 2.50 cr range... However, the evening and night shows picked up, taking the day's total to â¹ 4 cr+. The film's performance in urban centres, in particular, could help it post a respectable weekend... The business on Saturday and Sunday will be crucial."
Udta Teer stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles, with Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover in supporting roles. The film blends espionage with comedy, revolving around an undercover mission that takes a surprising turn. Speaking about the film, Ayushmann earlier told ANI, "In the film, I play a Pakistani spy who loses his memory; while he retains a sense of patriotism, he forgets which country he belongs to, so he ends up supporting India. It could be described as a pro-India patriotic comedy; it's a genre-defying film that can be enjoyed with the whole family."
