Kill director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat to helm Hollywood film Deadlocked starring Jamie Foxx

Filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, best known for his 2023 violent action thriller Kill, is all set to go global, making her Hollywood directorial debut. The filmmaker will be helming Deadlocked starring Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx. The n action thriller has landed at Amazon MGM Studios for worldwide distribution.

According to Deadline, Deadlocked is set to stream globally on Prime Video. The film's synopsis indicates that the film "follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty who is forced back into action when the trial of the century turns into a deadly hostage situation. The crisis begins when the defendant's daughter takes control of the courthouse in an attempt to free her father."

It is reportedly based on an original idea by Eric Scott Anderson (The Black Fox) and Matt Takejiro Bosack (NCIS: Hawai'i), who have penned the screenplay. Producers on the film include Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger for Range, Dave Caplan for C2, and Foxx for Foxxhole Productions. Additionally, AJ Bourscheid, Liz Destro, Paul Currie and Corinne Foxx will serve as executive producers on the film.

The film will star Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx, who was recently seen in Netflix's action-comedy Back in Action, co-starring Cameron Diaz. The film turned out to be a hit, with a recorded 46.8 million views in its opening weekend. Foxx will next be seen on Netflix's Olympic boxing drama Fight for '84, based on a true story.

Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat earned international acclaim with his film Kill, which was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was later sold to Lionsgate in a mid-seven-figure deal before its theatrical release in 2024. The film, starring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal, was touted to be India's most violent film ever. It emerged as a huge success at the box office as well as with critics, grossing over Rs 47 crore at the box office and winning several awards. The film was later released on OTT platform JioHotsar.

Apart from Kill, Nikhil has also directed films like Apurva and Hurdang, as well as web series Rasbhari and The Gone Game. The filmmaker was also reportedly associated with Parshuram, an upcoming action thriller starring Sunny Deol.
