A still from Biwi No. 1
Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor emerged as a popular on-screen pair in mainstream cinema during the 1990s and early 2000s. The two actors first shared screen space in Jaagruti and Nishchaiy, both released in 1992. They went on to collaborate on several successful films, including Andaz Apna Apna, Judwaa, Biwi No.1 and Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge.
On Koffee With Karan season 9, Karisma recalled how Salman once pulled a prank on her that left her crying. The actress revealed that while they were shooting for Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Salman told her that Biwi No.1 had recieved a poor opening at the box office. Believing that the film had failed as it was released alongside the World Cup cricket match, Karisma broke down in tears. However, Salman soon revealed that the film had become a blockbuster, leaving Karisma shocked and in disbelief at his prank.
Karisma said, "We were shooting for the song Oh Mr Raja from Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge in Switzerland. At the time, Biwi No. 1 had been released alongside the World Cup cricket match. During a break, Salman called me over and asked me to sit down. I asked him what had happened, and he said, "Are you okay? I need to tell you something. Biwi No.1 released today, and it hasn't even had an opening!"
"I started crying, and he just kept going on and on. He even got David ji and writer Rumi Jaffery to act along with him. I was in tears watching them, when suddenly, Salman burst out laughing and said, "Oh my God, it has become a blockbuster! I was like, "What the hell! How can you do this to me?" He was just pulling my leg!" she added.
Directed by David Dhawan and backed by Vashu Bhagnani under the Puja Films banner, Biwi No.1 remains one of the most popular comedy entertainers of the late 1990s. The film featured an ensemble cast including Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Anil Kapoor and Tabu.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan appeared as the first guest on the ninth and final season of Koffee With Karan. The Sultan actor was not only a familiar face on the couch. Karisma Kapoor also made a surprise appearance in the show, adding fun and an unexpected twist to the premiere episode centred on Khan's conversation with host Karan Johar.
The new season premiered on October 14, 2026, on JioHotstar in collaboration with The Peacock Hub.
