Veteran actress Mumtaz, who shared the screen with Dharmendra in films like Jheel Ke Us Paar (1973) and Loafer (1973), recently paid a heartfelt tribute to the late actor, remembering her co-star. Now, during a recent chat, she has revealed that she visited the hospital, where he was being treated, to meet him. However, she wasn't allowed to see him.
During a chat with ETimes, Mumtaz shared, "I went to see him at the hospital, but the staff told me he was on the ventilator and no one was allowed to meet him. I sat there for 30 minutes, hoping I might still get to see him, but I couldn't. I left without meeting him."
Mumtaz recalled meeting Dharmendra at his residence in 2021, she added, "I met him last in 2021, when I went to his place," she recalled. "It was such a pleasant meeting. That was the last time we met."
She also spoke about Dharmendra's wife and actor Hema Malini, saying, "I feel sorry for his family, and for Hema ji. She was always devoted to him. She must be feeling this loss very deeply. She was truly in love with him."âÂÂ
She also remembered the late actor saying, "We worked together in a few films, and he was always a wonderful co-star. A very nice man with a truly golden heart. He was milansar - warm, friendly, connected to everyone. Even till the end, he had a good equation with people. They still love him, and they always will. He was a legend who will always be remembered; he is irreplaceable."
On Tuesday, Mumtaz dropped a series of pictures with Dharmendra, paying her tribute to the actor. She shared stills from their film along with a picture featuring Dharmendra, Anju Mahendru, Poonam Sinha, Jackie Shroff, Danny Denzongpa, Talat Aziz and Mumtaz herself. She wrote, "Dharam ji, you were and you are always with us! May you rest in peace."
Superstar Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24. He was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after reportedly complaining of breathlessness. After being administered the necessary treatment, Dharmendra was discharged from the hospital on November 12 and moved to his Juhu home, where he continued his treatment and recovery.
Dharmendra is survived by his first wife, Prakash Kaur, their four children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeta, and Vijayta; as well as his second wife, superstar Hema Malini, and their two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
