Veteran actor Nana Patekar died in Goa on Thursday morning following cardiac arrest. The actor breathed his last at the age of 75, leaving the country in grief. While the country and the industry express sorrow over his passing, the preparations for his last rites have begun.
The 75-year-old actor was residing in Pune, and hence, his funeral will be held in the city. His mortal remains will be kept for viewing before his last rites at his farmhouse in Pune district on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Ganesh Thorat, the CEO of Patekar's Naam Foundation, shared, "The mortal remains will be brought (to Pune) by around 5 pm, and later will be kept for the last 'darshan'. The last rites will be performed on the premises of his farmhouse." The foundation works for water conservation.
The farmhouse is reportedly located at Donje on the outskirts of Pune city. Throat also confirmed that the last rites will be held with state honours.
Earlier on Thursday, after the news of Nana Patekar's death broke out, Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra's Minister of Cultural Affairs, announced that the veteran actor's last rites will be held with full state honours. "Considering the unparalleled contribution of actor Nana Patekar to Marathi plays as well as Marathi and Hindi cinema, we have decided to conduct his last rites with full state honours," the minister wrote on X.
Further, while speaking to the media, he added, "The departure of Nana Patekar ji is a profound loss for the world of art. Emerging from the lanes of Yeola, he carved out his identity in Marathi theatre, Marathi and Hindi cinema through the strength of his talent and perseverance. On his passing, heartfelt condolences from me, from the Government of Maharashtra, and from the Department of Cultural Affairs."
Nana was declared dead on Thursday morning at 5.20 AM at Goa's Manipal Hospital. The actor was found unconscious at his residence in Goa and was rushed to the hospital in Dona Paula. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department of the hospital, told ANI that they tried to save him by administering 45 minutes of continuous CPR; however, he could not be revived. A final video of the actor from just two days ago has since been going viral on the internet.
