Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away at his Goa residence during the early hours of October 8, after suffering a cardiac arrest. Now, the last video of his public appearance has surfaced on the internet.
Nana Patekar was in Goa on Sunday, October 4, to attend the Goa Tourism Day celebrations, where he met local artists and interacted with them. Visuals from the event show him playing the traditional shamel, a musical instrument, and enjoying the dekhni dance, a local art form. For the event, the legendary actor sported his signature white kurta-pyjama along with a white gamcha.
Recalling his early days in theatre, Patekar shared his experience in a state-level play competition and how the appreciation he received at the time gave him motivation and a clear sense of purpose.
He also talked about his enduring connection with the stage, saying, "Now, I don't want to do anything else. Let's keep doing this only." While addressing the gathering, Patekar also spoke about life and questioned whether one gets the chance to achieve what they want. "We all have to go someday. I don't know whether I will be here tomorrow. That time comes in the life of everyone," he said.
Nana Patekar died at 5:20 am on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Department of Oncology at Manipal Hospital, confirmed the news to ANI. He was 75 years old.
Actor Akshay Kumar took to his X account to pay tribute to his former co-star and a wonderful actor. "Really saddened by the news of Nana ji's passing.
He was one of those rare actors who never needed to do too much to make you sit up and watch. That voice, that intensity, that honesty in every performance… he was completely his own. I feel fortunate that we got to work together in Welcome, and then again more recently in Housefull 5. There are so many memories from those sets that I'll always hold close. Nana ji was truly one of a kind. It's hard to believe you're gone. Thank you for all the memories. You will be missed more than words can say," he tweeted.
Nana Patekar was known for his work across Hindi and Marathi cinema, and for performances that established him as one of Indian cinema's most remarkable actors.
