Neha Dhupia has reflected on two career decisions that continue to stand out to her, turning down Shah Rukh Khan's Chak De! India and Netflix's Operation Safed Sagar. During a board game session on her chat show Double Date, the actor spoke about declining the projects and how she now views them as missed opportunities.
The two projects offered Neha the chance to explore genres she had long wanted to be part of. While Chak De! India went on to become an acclaimed sports drama, Operation Safed Sagar brought the subject of military operations into the streaming space. Looking back, Neha acknowledged that both could have been significant additions to her filmography.
Speaking about the decisions, she said, "Sometimes, when you look back at the opportunities you turned down, you realise what you may have missed. Chak De! India and Operation Safed Sagar were two such opportunities that stayed with me."
Released in 2007, Chak De! India starred Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan, a former hockey player who coaches the Indian women's national hockey team. The film received widespread acclaim for its portrayal of teamwork, perseverance and the challenges faced by women athletes. It also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
For Neha, turning down the sports drama meant missing out on a project that aligned with an interest she had hoped to explore on screen. The actor's admission offers a glimpse into the difficult choices that can shape a career, particularly when a project's eventual success becomes clear only after it has been released.
Neha also revealed that she had declined Operation Safed Sagar, a series she described as another significant opportunity she let go. The project's military backdrop connected with a genre she had wanted to explore, making the decision particularly memorable in hindsight.
"I always wanted to do a good sports film, a good military film, but have missed these two big opportunities," she said during the conversation.
Her candid admission highlights how professional decisions can stay with actors long after the moment has passed. While it is impossible to know how accepting either project might have changed her career, Neha's reflections show that even an established actor can look back on certain roles with regret. Her conversation on Double Date offered a personal perspective on ambition, choices and the opportunities that sometimes remain memorable precisely because they were missed. Neha Dhupia is currently a Gang Leader in Roadies: Rebirth.
