'Film wouldn't work without him': Aamir Khan remembers his Ghajini co-star Pradeep Rawat

Actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for playing the antagonist in the movie Ghajini, died on Tuesday at the age of 74. The actor was reportedly battling blood cancer and died after the disease relapsed recently. His last rites were held in Mumbai on Wednesday morning. Aamir Khan, who worked with the late actor in Lagaan and Ghajini, remembered his co-star, calling him a 'fearless' actor. Aamir also credited him for the success of the film.

While talking to Variety India, Aamir reacted to Pradeep's death, saying, "He was extremely dedicated and fearless as an actor. Pradeepji played the title role in Ghajini. I think this was one of the most striking screen villains in our cinema. The film wouldn't have worked without him."

Aamir further opened up about Rawat's performance in Lagaan, saying that the actor brought his own flavour to his character of Deva Singh Sodhi. He shared, "I don't think anyone could have played Sodhi with such swag. He was a versatile actor. It's sad to hear of his passing."

About Pradeep Rawat

Pradeep Rawat starred in many popular movies and TV shows in his career spanning decades. Rawat even played the role of Ashwatthama in the popular show Mahabharat. Apart from Hindi films, the late actor had left a mark in the South Indian film industries with his performances. He even won several awards and widespread acclaim for his negative role in the Telugu movie Sye.

He was last seen in the Telugu film Gaayapadda Simham, which was released in May this year. Talking of his Bollywood career, his last Hindi movie was Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava, wherein he portrayed the role of Yesaji Kank.

Many celebrities and fans mourned Rawat's demise on social media. Pawan Kalyan wrote in Telugu, "May the soul of Shri Pradeep Rawat find peace. The demise of the renowned actor Shri Pradeep Rawat is heartbreaking. I pray to God that his soul attains peace."

Prabhu Deva also expressed grief saying, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Pradeep Rawat sir. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace."

Meanwhile, Rawat's last rites were held in Mumbai on Wednesday. Several family members, friends and members of the film fraternity gathered to bid him a final farewell.
