Actor Rakhi Sawant has received relief in a 16-year-old case linked to the suicide of a man. The case dates to 2010, when the man appeared on her television show Rakhi Ka Insaaf in November that year. On Thursday, a court in Jhansi cancelled the non-bailable warrant issued against her earlier on October 16, 2026. The warrant was cancelled after Rakhi's lawyer submitted an earlier High Court order directing that no coercive action be taken against her.
According to advocate Asu Singh, who is representing Rakhi, the High Court's concerned order had not been placed on record before the lower court during the previous hearing. As a result, the non-bailable warrant was issued against her, the advocate said.
During the Thursday hearing, the earlier order was presented before the court. The court, after taking it on record, cancelled the warrant and directed that the warrant be withdrawn with immediate effect.
The development gives Rakhi considerable relief from the warrant; however, it does not mean that the entire case has been closed. The further judicial proceedings in the 2010 case are expected to continue.
For the unversed, a man named Lakshman Ahirwar, from the Prem Nagar area of Jhansi, had appeared on Rakhi Sawant's show with his wife to discuss a marital dispute. During the show, Sawant reportedly called him impotent while trying to address the couple's disagreement.
Later, the man died by suicide. Following his death, Lakshman's mother, Savitri, filed a complaint at the Prem Nagar police station against the host. She claimed that Sawant had used insulting and objectionable language against her son, Lakshman, during the episode of Rakhi Ka Insaaf aired in October 2010.
Lakshman's family also alleged that he slipped into depression after the episode and Rakhi's comment. They also claimed that he eventually drank himself to death.
Meanwhile, Rakhi Ka Insaaf was a tabloid talk show hosted by actress Rakhi Sawant in 2010. During the show, Rakhi often addressed personal and social issues through disputes brought before her, featuring dramatic confrontations. The show also sparked several controversies during its run.
