Ramayana
Namit Malhotra's Ramayana, helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, has already sparked massive excitement among the audience. The stunning glimpses released so far paint a promising picture about the two-part epic. Now details about the larger-than-life opening sequence have been revealed. The battle scene teased in the trailer is rooted in a deeply layered and lesser-known chapter of the epic.
Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios, along with global VFX giant DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana promises scale like never before. And its opening sequence could be one of its most defining moments.
Long before the central story of Rama starts, the Ramayana will delve into the rise of Ravana. When Ravana seized Lanka, he overthrew his half-brother Kubera, the original ruler of the city. However, his ambition didn't stop there. Driven by ego and a need for absolute dominance, Ravana followed Kubera to Alakapuri, near the sacred Mount Kailash. Ravana wanted to eliminate any remaining challenge to his power and cement his supremacy across realms.
This lesser-known episode of Ramayana offers a grand cinematic opening scene on a massive scale. It is packed with emotion, mythology, and conflict. It will be a battle set against the divine backdrop of Mount Kailash, with celestial forces clashing as Ravana asserts his dominance.
More importantly, the opening sequence adds depth to Ravana's character. More than just the antagonist of Rama's journey, Ravana has been presented as a complex figure shaped by ambition and conquest. By showcasing this epic battle between Ravana and Kubera, the film has the opportunity to present a more layered narrative right from the start.
Ramayana gears up to be a global cinematic spectacle. The film tells the powerful, untold stories that truly set it apart, proving that even in a tale known for centuries, there are still moments waiting to be rediscovered.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in association with 8-time Oscar-winning DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, the two-part epic is set to release in IMAX worldwide. Part 1 will release during Diwali 2026 while Part 2 will hit the screens on Diwali 2027.
