Nargis and Raj Kapoor`s Chori Chori; Ayan Mukerji, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone
Actors Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are all set to reunite on screen, as per reports. The two are expected to come together for a new film directed by Ayan Mukerji. If true, this will mark their reunion after a decade. Additionally, a latest report suggests that the project will be loosely adapted from Raj Kapoor and Nargis's 1956 classic Chori Chori.
As per an India Today report, sources close to the development told them Ranbir is expected to revisit the old classic film directed by his great-grandfather, Raj Kapoor, giving it a modern-day contemporary twist. For the unversed, the original film revolved around the unlikely bond between a runaway heiress and a sharp-tongued reporter during a journey that combined romance, humour, and social commentary.
The sources claim that the new film will not replicate the storyline but will reinterpret its central premise in a modern setting, blending modern character arcs and updated narrative beats. With this project, Ranbir is also preparing to revive the iconic RK Films banner. This move is said to be driven by his personal interest in restoring the family legacy. As a result, the upcoming film is expected to be the first title under the renewed banner.
Meanwhile, Ayan Mukerji will also return to the director's chair with this project, while Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone will lead the cast. The film marks a major onscreen reunion while also positioning itself as a modern tribute to a landmark Raj Kapoor-Nargis classic.
Notably, the upcoming project will mark Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's reunion on screen after 10 years. They were last seen together in Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha, which was released in 2015. Prior to that, they shared screen in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, directed by Ayan Mukerji, and won the hearts of the fans. Both these films were made after the once-celebrated couple parted ways. Before that, they were seen together in Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).
Currently, Ranbir is busy shooting for Love & War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. He has also been shooting Ramayan simultaneously. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone will be next seen in Shah Rukh Khan's King and an untitled film with Allu Arjun.
