The controversy surrounding Farhan Akhtar's Don 3 seems to be getting messier by the day. One of Bollywood's biggest disputes has now taken a legal turn after veteran film producer TP Aggarwal filed a legal petition challenging the authority of industry bodies to issue bans or non-cooperation directives against film professionals. The petition reportedly questions the recent action taken by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) against Ranveer Singh over his exit from Don 3.
TP Aggarwal, who has produced films like Love In Nepal and Red Alert The War Within, has reportedly filed a petition before the Bombay Civil Court at Dindoshi against film bodies. The petition names both FWICE and the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) as respondents. According to reports, court notices have also been served to both organisations.
Notably, Aggarwal served as President of IMPPA for 17 years and was also elected President of the Film Federation of India (FFI) four times. Currently, the industry veteran holds the position of Patron at both FFI and IMPPA. In his latest petition, he argued that no individual, association, or trade body holds the legal right to direct its members to stop working with any person.
"The film industry thrives on collaboration, and it is important that matters of this nature are addressed through proper legal and professional channels. Any attempt to discourage people from working with an individual should not be taken lightly. Such actions can have far-reaching consequences for livelihoods and creative freedom, and therefore must be dealt with in a fair, transparent, and lawful manner," Aggarwal reportedly said.
Don 3 was officially announced in 2023 with Ranveer and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. However, the film faced repeated delays. Eventually, reports surfaced that Ranveer Singh had exited the project shortly before shooting was expected to begin.
Farhan Akhtar then moved to FWICE, which, after seeking a response from Ranveer Singh, issued a non-cooperation directive against the Dhurandhar star. Following the decision, Ranveer's spokesperson issued a statement addressing the dispute on his behalf and clarified that the actor does not wish to comment on the matter any further.
