Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra steps into the shoes of an investigative reporter in Reporting Live, a new thriller that takes viewers into the murky world of illegal sand mining, crime and political power. The trailer of the Netflix film sets up a dangerous investigation in which chasing one story could put a reporter and her cameraman in danger.
Directed by Dhruv Tripathi, Reporting Live also stars Deven Bhojani, Amol Palekar, Adil Hussain and Shekhar Suman. The film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 9.
The story begins with a tragic incident that catches the attention of Chopra's character and her cameraman, played by Bhojani. What initially appears to be a story worth investigating soon takes them into the illegal sand-mining trade, where the stakes are far higher than they anticipated.
The trailer introduces Chopra as a journalist determined to follow the evidence, even as her investigation begins attracting unwanted attention. Together with Bhojani's cameraman, she starts connecting the dots around the incident and the powerful interests allegedly benefiting from the illegal trade.
The deeper they get into the investigation, however, the more dangerous their reporting becomes. The trailer hints at confrontations, threats, chase sequences and violence, suggesting that the duo will have to fight to stay alive while pursuing the truth.
For Chopra, the film marks another thriller outing with Netflix after Shaque: Trust No One and a departure from some of the characters she has previously played. Talking about the role, the actor said, "I was immediately drawn to the spirit of this character, someone who is curious, fearless, and unwilling to stop until she gets to the truth."
She added that working with the film's ensemble made the experience particularly special, saying she was looking forward to audiences "uncovering this story."
At the centre of Reporting Live is illegal sand mining, with the trailer portraying sand as a highly valuable commodity and a source of conflict. The film uses the reporter's investigation to explore what happens when a seemingly straightforward story begins exposing a much larger network.
The project marks Tripathi's feature directorial debut. He has also co-written the film with Mihir Jadhav, while Partha Kiran Thakur and Joshua Shirsath serve as producers.
With Chopra and Bhojani leading the investigation, the film combines journalism, crime and survival against a backdrop where asking the wrong questions can have dangerous consequences. The multi-generational cast further adds to the scale of the thriller.
Reporting Live premieres October 9, only on Netflix.
