Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt recently found himself at the receiving end of major backlash and trolling after his remarks on Shekhar Suman's talk show. The actor mentioned that he does not feel peace in the country, which did not seem to sit well with many on the internet. Amid the backlash, the Dhurandhar actor has now issued a clarification with regard to his recent statement.
On Sunday, the actor took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to pen a long note about the incident and stated that his remark was part of a scripted show, and that it has been taken out of context.
Sanjay wrote, "I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution". He further mentioned, "My remarks were made in the context of a scripted conversation intended to be light-hearted and humorous. The spirit behind them was similar to the humour and satire seen in films like Munna Bhai, particularly the concept of 'Gandhigiri', which was intended to convey a message of love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill. Unfortunately, my words were interpreted outside of that intended context".
Nevertheless, the netizens were in no mood to believe the statement. One user commented, "I liked that sanju baba more. This one feels scripted and out of context"
Sanjay Dutt recently found himself embroiled in a controversy after his latest appearance on Shekhar Suman's chat show Shekhar Tonite. His comment suggesting diminishing peace in India sparked backlash on social media
During his appearance on the talk show, the actor said, "The people of this country are so lovely. There should be peace here. I can't feel that peace in our country anymore. We Indians are large-hearted people and we are hospitable. We have given so much, and we should always remain that way. I pray to Shivji that those days come back soon".
In a different segment on the show, Shekhar also asked Sanjay to imagine himself as the Prime Minister for five minutes and share a message for the people. Sanjay slipped into his Munnabhai character and said "Chalo desh mein kuch to chal rehla hai. Mere pyaare deshwasiyo, aaj apun aapka PM banke khub khush hua. Bole to body mein ajeeb type ka tarang daud re la hai. Bole to itna bada desh hai, itne saare log hain aur ab hum sabki zimmedari apun ke upar (My dear countrymen, today I am very happy to have become your PM. There is a strange kind of energy running through my body. This is such a huge country; there are so many people, and now the responsibility of all of them is on me)."
