The Centre has constituted a committee to examine actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming film Satluj after its reported removal from streaming platform ZEE5 over national security concerns. The development comes days after reports claimed the film was quietly taken off the platform's release schedule following government intervention.
As reported by Hindustan Times and NDTV, the newly formed panel will assess the content of Satluj and determine whether it raises issues related to national security or public interest. The committee is expected to review the film before any decision is taken on its release, though no timeline has been announced for completing the process.
Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj is believed to explore themes connected to Punjab and its socio-political landscape. While the exact storyline has not been officially revealed, the film reportedly touches upon sensitive subjects that prompted authorities to seek a closer examination before allowing its digital release.
The panel has reportedly been set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and includes officials from various government departments. Its objective is to evaluate the film in detail and recommend whether any changes are necessary before it can be released on an OTT platform.
The committee's formation follows reports that ZEE5 removed Satluj from its upcoming release slate after receiving communication from the government. The streaming platform has not publicly commented on the reported decision, and the filmmakers have also remained silent on the matter.
Neither Diljit Dosanjh nor director Honey Trehan has issued an official statement regarding the committee or the reported concerns surrounding the film. As a result, there is still no clarity on whether Satluj will eventually be released on ZEE5, another platform, or after possible modifications.
The development has reignited discussions about content regulation on OTT platforms and the scrutiny faced by films dealing with politically or socially sensitive themes. Industry observers have also questioned how such reviews could influence future digital releases involving similar subjects.
For now, the fate of Satluj depends on the committee's findings. Until the review is complete and the government communicates its decision, the film's release remains on hold. Fans of Diljit Dosanjh are awaiting an official update, hoping the project will eventually reach audiences after the review process concludes.
