Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar has addressed the criticism he received over his appearance in Samrat Prithviraj, particularly the widely trolled "fake moustache," admitting that not all creative choices land well with audiences.
Speaking on a podcast while promoting his recent projects, the actor acknowledged the backlash and explained the practical challenges behind his look in the historical drama. He revealed that the role required a very specific style of moustache one he was unable to grow naturally. "The story⦠demanded a particular kind of moustache. Now, I can't grow that kind of moustache," he said, adding that some viewers found it artificial and unconvincing.
Kumar also issued a subtle apology, stating, "I'm sorry if someone did not like it," while maintaining that such decisions are sometimes unavoidable in filmmaking.
The actor further explained that his packed schedule often juggling multiple films simultaneously limits his ability to undergo drastic physical transformations for every role. As a result, he occasionally relies on makeup, prosthetics, or visual effects to achieve different looks.
Despite the criticism, Akshay Kumar stressed that performance should ultimately matter more than physical appearance. According to him, audiences may focus on details like hair or makeup, but "at the end of the day, it's acting," and what counts is how convincingly a character is portrayed.
However, his explanation has not entirely silenced critics. Many viewers had earlier argued that portraying a historical figure like Prithviraj Chauhan required deeper preparation and a more authentic transformation. Some felt the issue wasn't just the moustache but a perceived lack of dedication to the role.
Released in 2022, Samrat Prithviraj faced both box office disappointment and mixed-to-negative reviews, with Kumar's look and performance becoming key points of discussion.
Years later, the actor's candid response highlights the balancing act between creative intent, practical limitations, and audience expectations while also showing that even small visual details can shape how performances are received.
Akshay Kumar is currently hosting a family game show Wheel of Fortune, with the recent controversy on wrapping season one. The actor and show's team announced the second season to go on floors soon.
