Varun Dhawan reveals his comparison between Dilwale and Inception was a 'sarcastic joke' that didn't land

Varun Dhawan recently joined Samay Raina on the latest episode of his show India's Got Latent, as Medha Shankr also joined the two along with Sharon Verma and Nishant Tanwar. The episode witnessed quite some roasts being exchanged. While nepotism jokes on Varun Dhawan took centre stage, the actor was also trolled for his infamous remark comparing Dilwale to Christopher Nolan's Inception.

Varun Dhawan on his 'Dilwale is Inception' remark

During the episode, when Samay Raina introduced Sharon Verma, Varun Dhawan was quick in showering praises on the young comedian, saying he was a big fan of hers. Sharon replied, saying she too was a big fan, but her compliment did not come without a roast. Sharon said, "I'm also a big fan of you. My favourite performance was when you said 'Dilwale is like Inception'," making everyone burst into laughter.

Varun replied, saying, "That was actually a joke; I was being sarcastic, and nobody got it. So maybe it was a bad joke." When Sharon prompted that everybody understood it, Varun said, "I don't think anybody got it. They thought I was serious, but I obviously wasn't serious because even I didn't get the trailer."

Samay replied, saying Dilwale was a great movie, before asking the other panelist it they knew how he got the film. Samay then trolled Varun, saying, "Because of gharwale," referring to his family connections in the film industry.

What Varun Dhawan had said about Inception

For the unversed, during the press conference of Dilwale back in 2015, Varun Dhawan had made headlines for a comment he made. When asked about the film Varun's hilarious reply invited a lot of trolling. He said, "You've seen Inception? You understood it? You liked it? Then you will like Dilwale also! There is a lot to our film. There is a plot, a story, and it is logical and is a full-on 2015 film which has a lot of twists and turns."

Dilwale is a Bollywood action-romance film helmed by Rohit Shetty. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon. It was a blend of love, comedy, and high-octane Rohit Shetty-style action, revolving around two estranged lovers and their siblings.
