Vikramaditya Motwane with his mother
Dipa De Motwane, veteran producer and mother of filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025. The news was shared by Aditi Rao Hydari, who penned an emotional message along with a series of pictures with the late producer calling her a "Champion producer and Tiger mom."
Actress Aditi Rao Hydari took to Instagram to share a slew of photos with Dipa De Motwane, which also included a picture of husband, Sidharth posing with the producer. Aditi remembered the veteran producer and mourned her demise. In the caption, shewrote, "Farewell OG...Champion producer, Tiger mom to not just her own. Life of a set, life of a party. Feeder, scolder, nurturer with the largest heart, the warmest hugs and the time to listen. Inspiration 101. My darling Dipa aunty, I will miss you so so so much."
Filmmaker Farah Khan expressed her shock, describing the late producer as someone who was "so full of life. Farah commented on Aditi's post and wrote, "Oh no! She was so full of life."
Dipa De Motwane started her career as an associate producer on Somnath Sen's film Leela, which was released in 2002. Later, she worked on Vishal Bhardwaj's horror comedy Makdee as well as Ashvin Kumar's adventure drama The Forest. She was well-known in the circle for her quiet yet influential contribution to Indian cinema. Dipa is believed to have help shape some of the most memorable films over the past two decades.
After starting as an associate producer, Dipa De Motwane went on to produce son Vikramaditya Motwane's acclaimed directorial debut, Udaan, in 2010. The film, starring Rajat Bharmecha and Ronit Roy among others, earned a standing ovation in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was later screened at global events, including the Giffoni Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.
Dipa then joined Phantom Films, the production house co-founded by Motwane with Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena. During her term with Phantom, she worked on several notable projects, such as Lootera, Hasee Toh Phasee, NH10, Masaan, Trapped, and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, among others.
