Every year, Aishwarya Rai grabs the spotlight for her stunning looks at Cannes. However, a section of people passed distasteful age-shaming comments and criticism surrounding her outfits. Speaking to PTI, Madhuri praised Aishwarya for representing India on the global stage and said, "I feel there were such people earlier too, and there are still such people today who comment. Earlier, they didn't have a way (platform) to comment, but today they have got that means (platform)."

"Especially Aishwarya, when she went to Cannes, she has a legacy. She has been going there for 20 years. She has made the whole country proud. She is a global star. You cannot reduce her to a number on a scale or a number on the dress or the size or a number on the calendar years. You cannot reduce her to that. She is beautiful. She looks beautiful, but she is beautiful inside. I have worked with her. I think people have to realise that. When you do these kinds of comments, what kind of message are you sending to the youngsters today? That your worth is based on how you look, not on your achievements? I think this is a completely wrong message being sent," she said.

Earlier, Kangana Ranaut also came out in support of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and called out those targeting her appearance on social media.

For those unversed, Madhuri and Aishwarya worked together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period romance drama Devdas with Shah Rukh Khan. In fact, Aishwarya first attended Cannes in 2002 for the premiere of the film alongside SRK.
