Singer Sonu Nigam has once again proved that music can find its way into even the most unexpected moments. The playback singer recently shared a video from an operation theatre, showing him singing Mohammed Rafi's evergreen track Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki while undergoing surgery.
In the clip shared on Instagram, which he revealed he deleted over a year ago, Sonu can be heard singing the classic number from the 1949 film Dulari for his doctor and the medical team. Turning what could have been an anxious moment into an unusual musical memory, the singer appeared to find comfort in the very thing he has dedicated his life to - music.
Sharing the video, Sonu wrote, "An impromptu performance for dear drnileshsatbhai and his loving team during my surgery. Singing in the pain...the Joy of Music!"
The candid glimpse from the operating theatre quickly caught the attention of his fans, who were surprised to see the singer performing even while undergoing a medical procedure. The video also prompted an outpouring of wishes for his recovery.
One fan commented, "Oh my god ⦠that's amazing. Get well soon. That voice Hmmm, this is a great idea for a collab Considering today's medical bills," while another wrote, "Wish you a speedy magical recovery." A third fan added, "Get well soon Sonu sir, we love you."
While Sonu shared the video from his surgery, he did not reveal the reason for the procedure. The singer, however, had spoken about a health issue earlier this year.
In June, Sonu revealed that he was undergoing treatment for a painful nerve-related condition. At the time, he spoke about undergoing several MRI and CT scans and taking medication for the condition.
The singer had also continued to remain connected with his music commitments despite the health setback. His latest video now offers fans another glimpse into his resilient approach, with Sonu choosing to sing through what he described as pain.
The song he picked, Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki, is one of Mohammed Rafi's celebrated classics and was originally featured in Dulari, starring Madhubala and Suresh. Sonu's rendition inside the operating theatre adds an unexpected chapter to the song's long musical legacy.
While the circumstances surrounding his surgery remain private, the singer's decision to share the light-hearted moment has clearly resonated with his audience. For fans, the video was less about the procedure and more about seeing Sonu Nigam do what he does best: sing, even when the circumstances are far from ordinary. He also recently got into controversy when he refused to comment on the student protests happening at the time.
