Prahlad Kakkar reveals Salman Khan was an obsessive boyfriend to Aishwarya Rai: 'Breakup was a huge relief'

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were one of the most loved on-screen duos after their stint in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. However, after their breakup in real life, they didn't share screen space, which affected their careers. In a recent chat, renowned producer Prahlad Kakkar revealed how Salman was an obsessive boyfriend and even banged his head. He also shared how he was privy to the ups and downs of their relationship, stating that the separation was a big relief for Aishwarya.

In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Prahlad shared, "Her greatest hurt was being abandoned by the industry for Salman. That was her greatest hurt. She really felt bad."

Opening up about Salman's obsession, the filmmaker said, "She was relieved about it. The breakup was a huge relief. He was very physical with her. He was very obsessive. How do you deal with somebody who is very obsessive?"

Asked if Aishwarya shared some details of her altercations with Salman, Prahlad said, "No. But I know. I was living in the same building! He would make scenes in the foyer. He would bang his head against the wall. The relationship had ended long before it ended. It was a relief for everybody - her parents, her, everybody. She wasn't upset about the breakup. She was upset about being completely… Everybody took Salman's side and not hers."

"That's where her commitment to the industry actually cracked. Otherwise, she was very committed. She didn't trust the industry anymore. They weren't being fair. I could understand if she was wrong and the other party was right, or if they were equally responsible. Nothing! It was so one-sided. She felt very, very betrayed by the industry," he added.

Aishwarya Rai's past relationships

For the unversed, Aishwarya's most widely reported and controversial relationship was with superstar Salman Khan. The two fell in love during the making of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), but they parted ways in 2002.

Post her breakup with Salman, Aishwarya was linked with actor Vivek Oberoi. Their relationship came into the spotlight after Vivek held a sensational press conference in 2003, alleging that Salman Khan had threatened him for dating Aishwarya.

The actress later tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan in 2007. They fell in love while working together on Guru and have a daughter named Aaradhya.
