Marvel Studios has kicked off the hype for Avengers: Doomsday months ahead of its theatrical release by unveiling fresh details about the highly anticipated superhero blockbuster. Along with confirming the film's runtime, the studio has also announced an unusually early ticket sale strategy, signalling just how massive an event it expects the film to become.
Set to release on December 18, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel's biggest crossover spectacles, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU in an all-new role and several iconic X-Men stars joining the cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avengers: Doomsday will have a runtime of 165 minutes (2 hours and 45 minutes). The film will be longer than Avengers: Infinity War (149 minutes) but shorter than Avengers: Endgame (181 minutes).
Marvel has also confirmed that premium-format tickets will go on sale on July 20, 2026, almost five months before the film's release. The early rollout is tied to the launch of the studio's new Infinity Vision premium format and comes as Dune: Part 3 prepares to compete for IMAX screens on the same release date.
The studio is also expected to unveil the first public trailer during its San Diego Comic-Con panel on July 25. While a teaser was screened exclusively at CinemaCon earlier this year, it has remained under wraps.
One of the film's biggest talking points remains Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU comeback, not as Iron Man, but as the franchise's next major villain, Doctor Doom.
The cast also features several beloved actors from the original X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer and Channing Tatum, making it one of Marvel's most star-studded ensembles yet.
Marvel recently unveiled the first official concept art at Bilibili World in Shanghai, showcasing Doctor Doom in full armour alongside fan-favourite heroes including Thor, Loki and Steve Rogers, while also giving fans a comic-accurate look at Magneto's classic costume.
Although Marvel has revealed plenty, some major surprises remain under wraps, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange yet to be officially confirmed. The film is also expected to feature the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and Wakandan heroes, setting the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release in 2027.
