More than a decade after bidding farewell to Harry Potter on screen, actor Daniel Radcliffe remains closely associated with the Boy Who Lived. However, the actor recently revealed that one very important person in his life has no idea about his connection to the beloved wizarding franchise.
Speaking in a recent interview with The New York Times, Radcliffe shared that his young son is still unaware that his father played Harry Potter in one of the biggest film franchises of all time. Daniel said, "Does my son know who Harry Potter is? No, not yet. Somebody gave me a DVD to sign recently, and so it was sitting on our kitchen table for a couple of days. And at one point, he was next to it, and I was just like, 'Who's that?' I'd see if he'd recognize me on the cover and he didn't, which was great." While the actor occasionally encounters reminders of the role through fans and pop culture references, he joked that his son has yet to make the connection.
The revelation amused fans, many of whom grew up watching Radcliffe alongside Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the blockbuster fantasy series that defined a generation.
Since the conclusion of the Harry Potter films in 2011, Radcliffe has deliberately chosen diverse projects across film, television, and theatre. The actor has often spoken about wanting to build a career beyond the iconic role that made him a global star.
Now a father, Radcliffe appears to be embracing a different phase of life. While Harry Potter continues to attract new audiences around the world, his son is currently too young to understand the cultural phenomenon surrounding the franchise.
While Radcliffe is not involved in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation, he revealed that he recently received an encouraging update about the project.
Speaking to People at the Tony Awards, the actor shared that veteran performer John Lithgow, who is set to play Albus Dumbledore in the new series, told him that production is progressing smoothly. Radcliffe said Lithgow assured him that "it's all going well," offering fans a positive sign as anticipation builds around the adaptation.
The upcoming series is expected to retell J.K. Rowling's seven books across multiple seasons with an entirely new cast. Although Radcliffe has repeatedly stated that he is unlikely to appear in the show, he has expressed support for the new generation of actors who will step into the iconic roles.
For now, the actor remains focused on his own projects and on the day when his son eventually discovers that his father once played one of the most famous characters in cinematic history.
