Emma Watson addresses rift with Harry Potter author JK Rowling: 'No one is disposable'

Emma Watson has said that she doesn't want to see JK Rowling, the author of the famed Harry Potter franchise, "cancelled". The English actor has faced criticism from the author for her advocacy for the trans community, but Watson has insisted that because they have different opinions, doesn't mean she doesn't "treasure" the 60-year-old writer and her memories of their interactions.

Speaking on the On Purpose podcast, Emma said, "I don't believe that holding the love, support, and views that I have, mean that I don't treasure Jo." She further mentioned, "I hope people who don't agree with my opinion will love me, and I can keep loving people with whom I don't share the same opinion. In this world right now, we seem to be giving permission to throwing out of people. That's wrong. I believe that no one is disposable. Whatever the conversation is, everyone should be treated with dignity and respect."

Watson admitted she is "open for that dialogue" with Rowling about her belief in an erosion of women's rights to appease the trans community, but is careful not to add to a "toxic" debate.
