Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau recently shared his experience of facing a night of uncertainty in Ukraine as he had to take shelter inside a Kyiv metro station. This comes amid the Russian air raid threats. The Danish actor, who also serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), seemingly spent the night alongside Ukrainian residents at the metro station seeking refuge from possible missile and drone strikes amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The 56-year-old actor shared glimpses of his experience on Instagram Stories. He described the night as particularly difficult. Best known for portraying Jaime Lannister in HBO's fantasy drama Game Of Thrones, highlighted the difference between his brief experience of seeking shelter and the everyday reality of thousands of Ukrainians.
"Spent a night in the Kyiv Metro. Pretty rough night. I get to do it one night and tell the tale but for thousands of Ukrainians it's a necessity to be safe during the shelling. We need to keep helping the civilians and uphold the rules we all agree on," he wrote.
Coster-Waldau was seen carrying a green backpack and a black bag containing his supplies during his visit to the capital of Ukraine. The actor also shared a screenshot of Kyiv's air raid alerts. The raid alerts had remained at red levels for three consecutive days, from October 27 to October 29.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's visit comes against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. The war has reportedly forced civilians in cities to regularly seek shelter during such air raid warnings. Amid this, the metro stations have become important refuge points, as underground platforms offer protection during missile and drone attacks.
On the work front, Coster-Waldau remains widely known for playing Jaime Lannister in the Game of Thrones series. He played the complicated member of House Lannister throughout all eight seasons, which aired between 2011 and 2019. His performance even earned him two Primetime Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
