The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has generated massive buzz online, but not all the attention has been about its star-studded cast. While Marvel fans praised the scale and ambition of the upcoming superhero epic, several viewers questioned the quality of its visual effects, triggering a debate across social media.
Soon after the trailer dropped, users pointed to a number of scenes they felt featured unfinished CGI, citing green-screen backgrounds, lighting inconsistencies and character compositing that appeared less polished than expected from an Avengers film. Some even argued that the visuals failed to match the blockbuster scale associated with Marvel Studios, with a section of fans describing the effects as "underwhelming" for one of the studio's biggest releases in recent years.
However, many fans were quick to defend the trailer, noting that visual effects on tentpole films are often refined until just weeks before release. Several recalled how previous Marvel trailers also featured unfinished CGI that was significantly improved in the final theatrical cut. With Avengers: Doomsday still months away from release, supporters argued that there is ample time for post-production work to be completed.
The conversation soon extended beyond Hollywood, with Indian social media users comparing the trailer to the recently unveiled glimpse of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. Many claimed the Indian mythological epic appeared visually richer despite revealing far less footage, while others argued that Indian films are often judged more harshly than their Hollywood counterparts.
Not everyone agreed with the comparison. Some users pointed out that Ramayana has promoted its visual effects as one of its biggest selling points, making scrutiny inevitable, while others felt comparing two films based solely on promotional material was premature.
Despite the online debate, anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday remains exceptionally high. Reports suggest premium-format screenings sold out quickly after advance bookings opened in several markets, indicating strong audience interest ahead of its release.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in theatres on December 18, where it will clash with Dune: Part Three in what is expected to be one of the biggest box office battles of the year.
