The long-running legal battle between Hollywood stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni over their 2024 film It Ends With Us has finally reached its conclusion, with both sides emerging from court claiming victory.

A US federal judge recently ruled that Lively can recover a portion of her legal fees and costs from Baldoni following the settlement of their legal dispute. However, the court denied her request for punitive damages and additional financial relief. The ruling marks one of the final chapters in a controversy that has dominated entertainment headlines since late 2024.

It Ends With Us row finally comes to an end

The dispute began after Lively filed legal complaints related to her experience during the making of It Ends With Us. Baldoni, who directed and starred in the film, denied the allegations and later filed a massive defamation lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others. That lawsuit was eventually dismissed, becoming a major point of contention between both camps.

In the latest ruling, Judge Lewis J. Liman determined that Lively was entitled to recover attorney fees connected to defending herself against Baldoni's dismissed countersuit. The court found that she had acted in good faith and was protected under California laws designed to shield individuals from retaliatory legal action related to misconduct allegations. At the same time, the judge rejected her demand for enhanced damages, meaning the victory was only partial.

Following the decision, both sides offered sharply different interpretations of the outcome. Lively's legal team described the ruling as another significant win and argued that it reinforced protections for individuals who come forward with complaints. Baldoni's representatives, meanwhile, emphasized that the court declined to award the larger damages sought by Lively and maintained that characterising the ruling as a sweeping victory would be misleading.

The legal battle had already been settled before reaching trial, with both parties agreeing not to pursue further appeals. Their settlement brought an end to months of courtroom clashes, public statements, and intense media scrutiny surrounding the film and its production.

With the case closed and the settlement in place, both Lively and Baldoni appear ready to move forward, even as each side continues to insist that the final outcome vindicates its position.
