Still from After the Hunt
After its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, After the Hunt, directed by visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, is set to release on Prime Video this week.
The announcement of the release date was made on X (formerly Twitter). Prime Video posted a new trailer for the film along with the caption, "Secrets aren't meant to stay hidden. Starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield, Luca Guadagnino's After The Hunt, streaming exclusively on Prime Video, November 20."
The trailer depicts drama, turmoil and unrest in the world of academia. Julia Roberts is seen playing a college professor at Yale University who finds herself at a crossroads when her star student, Ayo Edebiri, accuses a fellow professor, Andrew Garfield, of sexual assault. The dark lighting and saturation, combined with a chilling background score, promise a gripping psychological ride.
The new trailer also contained glimpses of supporting cast members Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny.
The film stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny, and is directed by Italian director Luca Guadagnino of Challengers fame.
The official synopsis for the film is, "Set within the elite walls of Yale University, After the Hunt follows Alma Imhoff (Julia Roberts), a respected ethics professor nearing tenure. When student Maggie Resnick (Ayo Edebiri) accuses fellow professor Hank Gibson (Andrew Garfield) of misconduct, Alma must navigate moral ambiguity, institutional politics, and her own buried trauma. As the accusation unfolds, Alma's private struggles - including chronic pain, a faltering marriage, and a past false accusation with lasting consequences - come to light. The story explores truth, trust, and self-preservation against a backdrop of academic power plays, generational divides, and hidden loyalties.
After the Hunt sees Guadagnino reunite with his longtime collaborators, actors Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. He also reunites with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who composed the score of his previous films, Challengers and Queer. The duo had earlier won the Oscar for their work on The Social Network and Soul.
The thriller is written by Nora Garrett and produced by Brian Grazer, Luca Guadagnino, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum. Executive Producers are Karen Lunder, Justin Wilkes, Alice Dawson, and Nora Garrett.
After the Hunt will be available to watch on Prime Video worldwide from November 20, 2025.
