Obsession, Curry Barker's horror film that transforms a seemingly harmless wish into a nightmare. Starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, is arriving on Indian streaming screens just in time for Halloween, with its original uncut version set to premiere on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar.
The platform announced its arrival on social media, confirming that viewers can watch it in English and Hindi. With its disturbing take on romance, obsession and the consequences of getting exactly what one wishes for, the film offers a horror option for the Halloween season.
Obsession will be available to stream in India from October 30, with the original uncut version promising audiences the film as intended by its makers. The announcement read, "THE WAIT IS OVER! THIS HALLOWEEN, ONE WISH COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING. Obsession: The Original Uncut Version, streaming 30th October, 7 PM onwards on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar. Available in English and Hindi."
The film stars Michael Johnston as Bear Bailey, a shy music store employee who struggles to confess his feelings for his outgoing co-worker, Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette.
Bear's life takes a turn when he comes across a mysterious toy called the One Wish Willow at a crystal shop. Despite the cashier's warning that previous buyers have been unhappy with its results, he snaps the willow and wishes for Nikki to love him more than anything in the world.
His wish appears to work. Nikki falls for him and begins showering him with attention, giving Bear the relationship he had always wanted. However, her affection soon becomes overwhelming, with her behaviour growing increasingly violent and unpredictable. Bear gradually realises that the love he wished for has become a threat, forcing him to find a way to undo the wish before matters get worse.
The film's box office performance has also drawn attention. Made on a reported budget of USD 750,000, it has been credited with earning more than USD 522 million worldwide.
Barker previously built an online following with Cooper Tomlinson through comedy sketches on YouTube and TikTok before moving into horror with the micro-budget film Milk and Serial in 2024. Obsession marks another step in his filmmaking journey, bringing his unsettling storytelling to Indian audiences this Halloween.
