Sophie Turner's upcoming Tomb Raider series has reportedly run into fresh controversy after its production was allegedly found to have violated safety regulations in the UK. The Amazon MGM Studios series, which features Turner as iconic adventurer Lara Croft, has been filming across various locations in Britain.
The live-action adaptation has generated considerable buzz since Turner was announced as the new Lara Croft. The series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and marks the latest screen interpretation of the popular video game character. However, the production has now come under scrutiny over alleged breaches of workplace safety laws during filming.
The report comes months after production on the series was temporarily halted following a minor injury suffered by Turner. Amazon MGM Studios had confirmed that filming was briefly paused as a precaution to allow the actress time to recover. The production subsequently resumed.
Turner has been undertaking extensive physical preparation for the demanding role. Before filming began, the actor revealed that she had been training intensively for the part, including spending several hours a day working on her physical fitness. The role requires her to perform action-heavy sequences associated with Lara Croft, including stunts and physically challenging set pieces.
Production on Tomb Raider began in January 2026 at Shinfield Studios in Berkshire and in London. The team also filmed on location in Surrey, where Turner was photographed shooting a physically demanding sequence. She was reportedly seen filming a scene involving a parachute jump over a lake while attached to safety equipment. The production also used the historic Wrest Park estate in Bedfordshire as a filming location.
Turner's portrayal of Lara Croft is being closely watched, particularly because Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander previously played the character in the live-action film adaptations. The new series is expected to offer a fresh interpretation of the video-game heroine.
The ensemble cast includes Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Bill Paterson and several other actors. Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner, with Chad Hodge also serving as co-showrunner.
The alleged safety-law concerns add another layer of attention to a production that has already faced an unexpected pause. While Turner's injury was described as minor and filming resumed, questions surrounding working conditions could place additional focus on how action sequences are planned and executed on the high-profile series.
Amazon MGM Studios has yet to publicly comment on the reported allegations concerning safety regulations. The series remains one of Prime Video's highly anticipated upcoming projects, with Turner's take on Lara Croft expected to be central to its appeal.
