Los Angeles: Emily Blunt may have played action-heavy roles in the past, but the actress says her titular role on "The Girl on the Train," is "the most challenging thing" she has ever done. The 32-year-old actress said she was pulled into the story's "very damaged" protagonist.

"I just love that it's about addiction and loneliness and voyeurism and what we think we see and don't see. I think it's very relatable. We've all ridden the train to work and wondered about the lives of the people on the train, and I think that people relate to that," Blunt said.

The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, sees Blunt as Rachel Watson. Coping from the pain of her divorce with alcohol, she forms a fictional bond with a couple she sees out the window of her train commute. One day, she sees something shocking and becomes entwined with the mystery that follows.

"I love that your heroine, your lead character is the most unreliable witness in the world because she's a drunk. And yet she's right, and nobody believes her. The idea of playing a part like that where you just feel like you're drowning is exciting.

I've never played a blackout drunk before, so this is new to me now," she said. "The Girl on the Train" will hit the US theatres on October 7.
