BTS leader RM has opened up about one of the most challenging periods the group faced before their highly anticipated reunion, revealing that the members were struggling emotionally while navigating military service and an uncertain future.
During a recent livestream on Weverse, RM reflected on a gathering that took place in 2024 after Jin became the first BTS member to complete South Korea's mandatory military service. According to RM, the reunion happened at Jimin's home, where the members had an honest and emotional conversation about the difficulties they had been facing during their time apart.
Recalling the moment, RM shared that the group was not in a good place mentally. The members, who had spent years together before pausing group activities for military enlistment, found themselves dealing with emotional strain and uncertainty. The discussion reportedly became so heartfelt that several members were moved to tears as they reflected on their experiences and worries about the future.
The BTS leader admitted that the emotional gathering made him realize the importance of keeping the group united. He said the conversation strengthened his determination to work harder to hold the team together and ensure that their eventual comeback would be meaningful for both the members and their fans.
RM also spoke about the motivation behind BTS' latest album, ARIRANG. He explained that one of his biggest goals was to create a project that would reward the patience and unwavering support of ARMY, the group's global fanbase. After years of waiting through the members' military commitments and solo activities, he wanted the album to feel worthy of the anticipation surrounding BTS' return.
Released in March 2026, ARIRANG marked BTS' first full-group album following the completion of military service by all seven members. The project quickly became a major success, topping charts and reaffirming the group's global popularity. The album's title draws inspiration from Korea's iconic folk song "Arirang," reflecting themes of longing, resilience, identity and reunion.
BTS is currently connecting with fans around the world through its ongoing Arirang World Tour. RM's candid comments have given fans a rare glimpse into the emotional challenges the members faced behind the scenes, highlighting the bond that helped them overcome a difficult chapter and return stronger than ever.
