Former BIGBANG member Seungri has confirmed that he is legally married and is preparing to welcome his first child, a baby boy, in January 2027. The former K-pop star has also dismissed speculation that he married his partner because she was pregnant.
Reports about Seungri's personal life surfaced on October 27, when Korean media outlets reported that his partner, a non-celebrity in her 20s, was expecting a child early next year. The news prompted speculation about the timeline of their relationship and whether the pregnancy had led to their marriage.
"Since it is a private matter, I feel burdened to discuss details," Seungri said in an interview with South Korean publication Ilgan Sports on October 28. He added, "My wife and I are, of course, legally married, and the claims that we married due to pregnancy are false."
The former singer also clarified that the couple is not planning a formal wedding ceremony at present. "At present, I am not considering a wedding ceremony," he said. The couple has reportedly settled in Seoul's Gangnam district as they prepare for their son's arrival. Seungri has asked the public to respect his wife's privacy, given that she is not a public figure, and avoid unnecessary speculation about their relationship.
However, the news of his impending fatherhood comes amid renewed attention on a separate legal complaint. In August 2026, a man in his 30s reportedly filed a complaint accusing Seungri of aggravated assault following an argument at a Gangnam restaurant.
Seungri has acknowledged holding a liquor bottle during the incident but denied swinging it at the complainant or threatening him. Police had not questioned him, and no charges had been filed at the time.
Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 and became one of the group's recognisable members. In 2019, he left the group and the entertainment industry amid the Burning Sun scandal, which triggered investigations into alleged sexual offences, drugs and links to police surrounding a Seoul nightclub.
The legal proceedings resulted in convictions on nine charges, including procuring prostitution, habitual gambling, embezzlement and instigating aggravated assault. A military court initially sentenced him to three years in prison, but an appeals court reduced the term to 18 months.
South Korea's Supreme Court upheld the reduced sentence in May 2022. Seungri was released in February 2023 after completing his prison term. Years after the scandal brought his entertainment career to an abrupt end, Seungri's marriage and impending fatherhood have once again put his private life in the spotlight.
