Jailer 2 has sparked discussion among Mohanlal fans over the Malayalam superstar's limited screen time and scenes that reportedly did not make the final cut. Now, action director Chethan has addressed a fan's question about whether Mohanlal performed the car scene in the climax himself. His response comes amid growing debate over the actor's dupe performing in the film.

Jailer 2 action director on Mohanlal's scenes

Under one of Chethan's recent Instagram posts thanking Jailer 2 cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan for making the stunt scenes look stunning, one fan asked the action director, "Sir, two doubts: Why was Mohanlal sir's intro trimmed? I hope there are quite a few scenes of stars that are trimmed. And my other question is: in the car scene (climax), did Mohanlal act in it himself or is it a dupe? There is a rumour circulating that a dupe acted in the scene."

Although Chethan didn't respond to the first question, as only the makers can answer it, he answered the second query briefly. "It's him," he wrote, confirming that Mohanlal himself appeared in the scene.

About Mohanlal's scenes getting cut in Jailer 2

The designer has publicly called out the Jailer 2 makers, claiming that three distinct looks created for the Malayalam superstar were removed from the final cut. He has also said he would not be part of a possible third instalment. The designer also questioned the decision to reduce the screen time of a star of Mohanlal's stature. "From my experience in cinema, trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal Sir is simply unnecessary," he stated.

For those unversed, Malayalam mimicry artist and lookalike Joby Kodakara served as a body double (dupe) for Mohanlal. Joby Kodakara shared his experience and set photos on social media around the film's release. His revelation sparked frustration and debate among Mohanlal fans, who were already upset over the Malayalam superstar's limited screen time.

Mohanlal reprises Mathew, the flashy smuggler and friend of Rajinikanth's Muthuvel Pandian, whom he first played in the 2023 film Jailer. In the sequel, his character appears during the climax. Jailer 2 headed for a record-breaking start, surpassing the Rs 50 crore net mark at the domestic box office. Rajinikanth's action-packed sequel has outperformed many popular Tamil films, including Vijay's GOAT and Kamal Haasan's Vikram.
