Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda's appearance on Koffee With Karan 9 has sparked online discussion after the couple spoke about how their relationship progressed towards marriage. While their exchange about Rashmika repeatedly asking Vijay to marry her was presented with humour, one social media user believes the episode could invite the kind of scrutiny Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh faced after their appearance on the chat show.
In the promo, host Karan Johar asks Vijay whether there was a proposal when someone as stunning as Rashmika entered his life. Rashmika shakes her head before recalling how she approached the subject of marriage. Vijay says she told him, "Let's get married," to which he responded, "Okay, you have asked me a 100 times." When Karan asks whether she really asked him that often, Rashmika replies, "I asked him for an entire year." Vijay adds, "I am not an a''hole," prompting laughter.
Reacting to the exchange, one user on social media drew a parallel with Deepika and Ranveer's much-discussed Koffee With Karan 8 appearance in 2023. The user wrote, "Firstly, this Koffee with Karan episode could be another Deepika-Ranveer disaster waiting to happen. Newly married couples should avoid coming on this show. Deepika and Ranveer learned that the hard way."
The comment reflects concerns about how personal revelations on celebrity chat shows can be dissected online, sometimes long after the episode airs. Deepika faced criticism after discussing her dating life before committing to Ranveer, with parts of the conversation becoming a subject of debate on social media.
The same user also questioned the dynamic conveyed by Vijay's response to Rashmika's account of their marriage conversations, suggesting that his remarks could make it appear as though she had been pursuing him while he was doing her a favour.
The user wrote, "Secondly, the way Vijay behaves, you would think Rashmika begged him to marry her, and he agreed as if he were doing her a favour. And tbh, I feel that is exactly what would have happened if Liger had been a blockbuster. I doubt he would have married Rashmika if the film had been a hit."
