Vijay`s father reacts to Jana Nayagan controversy
Veteran filmmaker and Vijay's father, SA Chandrasekhar, has finally broken his silence on the controversial delay surrounding the theatrical release of Jana Nayagan. Chandrasekhar hinted that the hurdles faced by the film were linked to Vijay's political transition.
Chandrasekhar told reporters, "Dravidian parties have ruled Tamil Nadu for more than 60 years," while claiming that Vijay's political venture has disturbed rooted political forces in the state. He claimed that pressure is being exerted on Vijay through various means following his political entry. "Everyone knows why Jana Nayagan has not been released," he said, indicating that the film's delay was linked to political developments and not creative or commercial reasons.
Further talking about the reasons behind the repeated postponements, Chandrasekhar told India Today, "The people know what happened in Karur. Vijay is not afraid of anything. His chances of success are bright." "It is normal for those entering politics for the first time to face obstacles. Vijay will face any number of such obstacles," he added, emphasising that the circumstances behind Jana Nayagan's delay are already well understood by the public.
Chandrasekhar also highlighted a larger cultural shift triggered by Vijay's political foray, according to him, saying, "After Vijay entered politics, young people and women are discussing politics. They are more articulate than me."
Chandrasekhar's comments come amid a massive legal setback for Jana Nayagan. Recently, the Madras High Court set aside a single judge's order directing the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant a censor certificate to the film, which further delayed its release.
The High Court noted that the single judge should have given the CBFC adequate time to file its counter before passing the earlier order. Notably, Jana Nayagan cannot be released in theatres until it receives clearance from the CBFC.
A fresh hearing in the case is set to begin at the Madras High Court, as the film's release date hangs in uncertainty. Helmed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 9. Along with Vijay, the film also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju in key roles.
